Harvard’s summer study abroad programs are the result of a partnership between the Summer School and the Office of International Programs. We believe that a period of time spent studying abroad enriches a student's educational experience in many ways and that all students can benefit from developing their knowledge of the world and of cultural differences as part of their education. Living in a different society, appreciating different cultural values, and learning in a completely new context and in new ways are the most exciting experiences available to any student.
The programs range in cost from $4,800 to $8,500, which covers tuition, room and some meals, course materials, and scheduled excursions and extracurricular activities for most programs. Application procedures are outlined on each program page. The programs are worth 8 credits and may be taken for undergraduate or graduate credit. Enrollment is limited.

Before You Apply
Study abroad exposes students to ways of living, learning, and interacting that differ from their own. Students interested in study abroad programs should be aware that they could face mental, emotional, and physical challenges. They may find themselves navigating new cultural encounters; hiking up mountains or over cobblestones; pounding the pavement in urban caverns; and encountering new foods, different customs, and unfamiliar domestic patterns—and doing all of this in a new language. Before applying students should consider such challenges, familiarize themselves with their country of interest, and direct any questions to the program staff.
Because new programs may be added and existing programs occasionally change, please check back periodically for the latest information about studying abroad with the Harvard Summer School.
