Study abroad fair for Harvard College students: Find out more about the 2010 study abroad programs that the Harvard Summer School is offering on Friday, September 11, 2009, from 11 am–3:30 pm in Dillon Fieldhouse and Gordon Track and Tennis Center (near Harvard Stadium). 2010 summer program information will be available on the web in early September.
Each program is as demanding as it is rewarding, owing to the strong commitment of Harvard faculty and the partnership between the Summer School and foreign universities. Unlike many study opportunities abroad, our programs are led exclusively by our faculty, ensuring the same high-quality education students encounter on campus in Cambridge.
All programs are 8 credits. Harvard College students earn credit for two half courses, and some programs may fulfill language citation or Core credit requirements.
Harvard faculty members design each program’s curriculum and oversee each program personally. They transform the subjects they teach during the academic year into new learning experiences overseas.
In addition to multiple opportunities for foreign language immersion, Harvard summer programs offer specialized study in a variety of subjects, from an investigation of biodiversity in Borneo to archaeological fieldwork in Israel and everything in between.
Study abroad exposes you to ways of living, learning, and interacting that differ from your own. Study abroad can involve mental, emotional, and physical challenges. You may find yourself navigating new cultural encounters; hiking up mountains or over cobblestones; pounding the pavement in urban caverns; and encountering new foods, different customs, and unfamiliar domestic patterns—and doing all of this in a new language. Before applying you should consider such challenges, familiarize yourself with your country of interest, and direct any questions to the program staff.
Harvard study abroad programs are selective and require application. Instructions are outlined in each program description. Programs span five to nine weeks and all are limited enrollment. The application deadline for most programs is February 27.
The costs range from $4,865 to $7,310, and for most programs this covers tuition, room and some meals, scheduled excursions, and extracurricular activities. Program directors will advise students of likely additional expenses. Harvard Summer School does not cover the cost of passports, visas, health insurance, immunizations, or travel to and from the program site.
Opportunities are available for Harvard College students to receive funding. Separate application is required for funding and please note that funding application deadlines are firm. See the individual program pages for more details.
