Apply to be a Summer School proctor

Each year Harvard Summer School hires 110 Harvard University students as proctors to supervise the Summer School residences. Proctors may apply for either the Secondary School Program—most of whose students live in the Yard—or the general program, whose college-age and older students live in the Houses.
In return for service to the Summer School, proctors receive:
1. Full room and board
2. One 4-credit course
Kathleen Brady advises students
Kathleen Brady, a Harvard College student and a proctor in 2009, reflected on her experience. “I heard about it from a friend who had proctored in 2008 and said it was a great experience. I want to go into teaching high school, so I thought it would be a lot of fun to work with students in a residential and academic setting.”
In addition to proctoring, Brady took the course ANTH S-1641 Tolkien as Translator: Language, Culture, and Society in Middle-Earth. “In terms of balancing being a proctor and taking a class, I found that it wasn’t a problem for me,” she said. “I could do my e-mails, reading, etc., at any time of day that worked best for me. All the while I was still very available to my students. I really enjoyed having that flexibility in my schedule.”
