Dean’s Welcome
All of us at the Harvard Summer School invite you to join us in 2012 in a long academic tradition of excellence and innovation. Begun in 1871, our program is the oldest academic summer program in the United States and continues today to offer a unique opportunity for intellectual exploration and cultural enrichment through the remarkable resources of Harvard University.
Our more than 300 summer courses cover a wide range of subjects, including those in science, humanities, writing, economics, computer science, and many foreign languages. Some courses prepare you for advanced studies in science and medicine. Others introduce you to topics like drama, dance, management, and finance.
In addition to the courses in Cambridge, we offer study abroad programs in locations around the world. These are directed by Harvard faculty and provide special opportunities for international studies.
Our college-level high school summer program includes special seminars and advising in preparation for college. There are opportunities for all to participate in the pops band, a summer orchestra or chorus, and intramural sports.
As a student at Harvard you will join a vibrant community of motivated students and distinguished faculty as you satisfy your intellectual curiosity, earn academic credit, and explore the many facets of Harvard University and the Boston-Cambridge area.
On behalf of the faculty, I invite you to examine our offerings and to join one of America’s most stimulating academic environments. We believe you will have a productive and rewarding summer experience at Harvard University.
