Parking and Transit
Looking forward to summer 2017?
Information will be posted on a rolling basis:
- By December 1: programs for high school students information
- In mid-January: general course listings, housing information, and deadlines
You can see a preview of 2017 dates in the calendar.
Parking in Cambridge and Boston is extremely limited. You are encouraged to walk, bike, or use public transportation instead of bringing vehicles to campus.
For directions on getting to campus via car or public transportation, see Directions to Campus. You can also find information on nearby airports and taxi service.
Parking applications and fees
If you do drive, permits are required for parking on Harvard University property. Parking for students in on-campus housing and for daytime commuters is located in Allston. Evening commuter parking (after 5 pm) is available in Cambridge on a limited basis.
You may apply for a parking permit once your classes begin. You must apply in person at the Campus Service Center located on the eighth floor of Smith Campus Center. For details, see the Summer School Parking section of the Campus Service Center website or call (617) 496-7827.
Shuttle and van services
The Summer School shuttle runs in the evenings and connects the Houses with other campus locations from 6:30 pm to 2 am, seven days a week. The shuttle also runs in the morning from 7 am to 10 am to connect the Quad and Dunster House to Memorial Hall. Please note that Dunster service begins June 27 and runs only on weekdays. Students may also use the Allston Campus Express to reach Memorial Hall on weekday mornings from 7 am to 10 am.
For full shuttle routes and schedules, see the Harvard Transportation and Parking Services website. You can also track the shuttles in real time at www.shuttle.harvard.edu.
Daytime van services
The daytime van service is designed for Harvard community members who, as a result of physical impairment or a medical condition, find it difficult or impossible to use the regular fully accessible shuttle bus. Services are available 8 am to 7 pm, Monday-Friday by reservation only. Students who wish to use the daytime van service should contact the accessibility services office at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Evening van services
All students may request the full service evening van, which runs 7 pm to 12:30 am, Monday-Friday and 4:30 pm to 12:30 am on weekends, during the summer term. To request a ride, call (617) 495-0400. Reservations are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Last call at 11:45 pm.
For more information on these and other bus and van services, see the Harvard Transportation and Parking Services website.
