Parking and Transit
Parking in Cambridge and Boston is extremely limited. You are encouraged to walk, bike, or use public transportation instead of bringing vehicles to campus.
For directions on getting to campus via car or public transportation, see Directions to Campus. You can also find information on nearby airports and taxi service.
Parking applications and fees
If you do drive, permits are required for parking on Harvard University property. Parking for students in on-campus housing and for daytime commuters is located in Allston. Evening commuter parking (after 5 pm) is available in Cambridge on a limited basis.
You may apply for a parking permit once your classes begin. You must apply in person at the Campus Service Center located on the eighth floor of Smith Campus Center. For details, see the Summer School Parking section of the Campus Service Center website or call (617) 496-7827.
Shuttle and van services
The Summer School shuttle runs in the evenings and connects the Houses with other campus locations. Full shuttle routes and schedules will be available later this spring.
Daytime van services
The daytime van service is designed for Harvard community members who, as a result of physical impairment or a medical condition, find it difficult or impossible to use the regular fully accessible shuttle bus. Students who wish to use the daytime van service should contact the accessibility services office at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Evening van services
All students may request the full service evening van, which runs 7 pm to 12 am, seven days a week during the summer term. To request a ride, call (617) 495-0400. Reservations are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Last call at 11:30 pm.
For more information on these and other bus and van services, see the Harvard Transportation and Parking Services website.
