Germanic Languages and Literatures Courses

GERM S-Bab Beginning German (31838)

Class times: Mondays-Fridays, 9 am-1 pm.

Course tuition: noncredit and undergraduate credit $5,400.

Limited enrollment.

This seven-week intensive course provides a thorough introduction to German language and culture, encompassing all four skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Class time is focused on developing oral proficiency; by the end of the course, students should be able to engage in everyday conversations with native speakers. Language instruction is supplemented by a discussion section on cultural, social, and political developments in Germany through literature, film, and newspaper articles. (8 credits)

GERM S-R Introduction to German for Reading Knowledge (31302)

This introduction to German expository prose is designed primarily for students who wish to acquire a reading knowledge of the language for research purposes. Texts from a variety of fields are used. No previous knowledge of German is assumed. (8 credits)
