HSCI S-25i Summer Seminar—On the Witness Stand: Scientific Evidence in the American Judicial System (32600)
Class times: Tuesdays, Thursdays, 3:15-6:15 pm.
Course tuition: undergraduate credit $2,700.
Summer seminars are open only to Secondary School Program juniors and seniors, and to college undergraduates.
Limited enrollment.
Scientific evidence can serve as a powerful witness in the courts. In this seminar, we evaluate the legal response to novel scientific evidence (x-rays, fingerprints, polygraphs) and consider recent challenges to ballistics, arson science, interrogation, and identification techniques – exploring science and law as they negotiate the complex relationship between justice and truth. (4 credits)
