Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) students should consult the GSAS handbook or the Requirements Office in the FAS Registrar’s Office about enrolling in Summer School courses.
Reading and research courses
As a GSAS student you may, in accordance with the policies and requirements in your department, enroll in up to 8 credits of Summer School graduate courses of reading and research. These courses are available only to GSAS students.
They must be taken under a faculty member or visiting summer faculty member of the GSAS department who is authorized to supervise the course. Satisfactory/unsatisfactory (SAT/UNSAT) grades are assigned.
To register for a graduate reading and research course:
- Obtain department approval on the Summer School 300R: Supervised Reading and Research Course Application form.
- Submit it with a Summer School Registration form, the $50 registration fee, and $2,920 tuition (per 4 credits) to the Summer School Registrar’s office by the Monday, May 18 registration deadline.
From Tuesday, May 19, until Wednesday, June 24, you may register with an additional $200 late fee.
Harvard Graduate School of Education
If you are a Harvard Graduate School of Education (GSE) student, you may obtain academic credit toward a GSE degree for courses taken at Harvard Summer School with the approval of your advisor and the GSE Committee on Degrees.
No reduction will be made in GSE tuition requirements if permission is granted.
A maximum of 8 credits taken at the Summer School may be applied to a GSE degree.
