Harvard Extension School Students
Apply summer courses to Extension degrees
Earn degree credit in the summer and get that much closer to your graduation date. If you live outside Boston, you can take courses on campus to apply toward your residency requirement. International students who will enroll full-time in the Summer School may request an I-20 certificate for the F-1 student visa.
Extension degree course search
In February, the degree course search will be available, which you can use to find summer courses that count toward your Extension School degree.
Popular summer courses
- International Marketing
- Introduction to Quantitative Methods
- Strategic Management
- Fundamentals of Ecology
- Intellectual Property
Requirements
- Summer School courses may be included in the 3 courses required for admission to degree programs.
- All Master of Liberal Arts courses must be taken for graduate credit.
- Theses and internships. If you are a Master of Liberal Arts candidate working on an approved thesis or internship, you must register for your continued work by Thursday, June 28, to be considered a full-time Summer School student. Download the thesis continuation form or the internship continuation form when they become available.
Financial aid
Admitted degree and health careers candidates may apply for financial aid for the summer term. Aid may include the Federal Pell Grant (undergraduate degree candidates only), Federal Direct Stafford Loans, and the Harvard Summer School Scholarship (scholarships cover up to half of the cost of tuition).
March 1 is the priority deadline for submission of a complete application. If you complete your application by this deadline, you will be considered for the Harvard Summer School Scholarship.
For more information, see Financial Aid on the Extension School website, or call Student Financial Services at (617) 495-4293 or send an e-mail to SFS@dcemail.harvard.edu.
ID cards
If you are a degree candidate with a Harvard ID card that is valid beyond the summer term, you will continue to use that ID card for all summer access and privileges.
If you are a candidate who does not yet have a Harvard ID card, you will be issued a Summer School ID card valid through the summer term. Then you will be issued an Extension School ID card in the middle of August, when the summer term has ended.
