Harvard’s Institute for English Language Programs welcomes students from around the world who have basic literacy in English and wish to improve their English skills.

Intensive programs for international students

If you live outside the United States and wish to come to Harvard for the summer to study English, Harvard Summer School’s intensive programs provide opportunities to study English full time. You attend classes Monday through Friday, and you may live on campus. As a student in an intensive program, you are eligible for an I-20 certificate issued by the Summer School for an F-1 visa.

If you live in the Boston area and want to take an evening class to improve your English, this program has a variety of courses that meet on campus two times each week.

The Summer School offers a full-time English language program for high school students with advanced English language skills. This program is part of the Secondary School Program.
