Housing for Secondary School Students
Attention applicants: we are waitlisting all SSP applicants requiring on-campus housing who complete their application beginning April 20. Therefore, we do not advise any applicant wishing to reside on campus to begin an application. We remain able to accommodate qualified applicants living in the Boston and Cambridge area who can commute to classes.
The cost of room and board is $4,775. See Tuition and Financial Aid for more information.
You will live in Harvard Yard or Union dorms where Harvard freshmen live, or in an upper-class House. Dorms are divided into entryways: an entryway can be a building or a floor or a combination of floors. A proctor is in charge of each entryway. Read more about the Resident Staff.
Resident staff advise and supervise students in the dorms. Rising sophomores—who will graduate in 2014 and are typically younger than other SSP students—observe a curfew and are housed with a higher ratio of proctors to supervise and assist them.
On Opening Weekend, SSP students wait until all roommates arrive before determining who settles in which bedroom and sleeps in which bed. This is an excellent way to get to know your roommates and develop a way to resolve differences. If you and your roommates ever need help resolving a dispute, you should talk with your proctor.
Once admitted, complete these steps as soon as possible
- Request housing if you plan to live on campus (housing is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis).
- Register for your selected courses (courses with limited enrollment fill quickly).
- Pay in full.
Complete these steps right away. If you have not completed these steps by May 21, you will be withdrawn from the program.
See the admitted students to-do list for a complete description of these next steps.
Starting March 1, you can request housing by completing the online housing request and submitting full payment of tuition, housing, and all other fees by Monday, May 21. See Housing Request and Deadlines for more details.
More information
See On-Campus Housing for more about living on campus, including information about moving in as well as what’s supplied in your room. More details will become available as it gets closer to the start of the summer term.
Commuting students
If you live near campus, you may commute to your courses from home. Commuters enjoy many of the benefits that students living on campus enjoy. If your home is not within commuting distance from Harvard, but you plan to live off campus with a relative or other responsible adult and commute, you will need to have your living arrangement approved.
Students who apply as commuters may enroll for either 4 or 8 undergraduate credits.
