ID Numbers and PINs
You have 2 sets of identification (ID) numbers and personal identification numbers (PINs) as a Harvard Summer School student:
- DCE ID number and PIN
- Harvard University ID number and PIN
DCE ID number and PIN
The Division of Continuing Education (DCE) encompasses Harvard Summer School and Harvard Extension School. Your DCE ID number and 6-digit PIN provide access to online services for both schools(see a list of the available online services).
If you are a Harvard Extension School student, you use the same DCE ID number and PIN to access Summer School online services.
What are my DCE ID number and PIN?
Your DCE ID number begins with the “@” symbol and is assigned the first time you create a Summer School or an Extension School online services account. If you do not know your DCE ID number, you may request it from the online services login page. Or you may visit Information Services at 51 Brattle Street with a government-issued photo ID.
A DCE PIN is assigned to you the first time you create a Summer School or an Extension School online services account. You may change your DCE PIN online. If you do not know it, you may request it on the online services login page.
Harvard ID number and PIN
A Harvard University ID number (HUID) uniquely identifies you within Harvard University. The HUID is not the same as your DCE ID number, which you may use only for Summer School and Extension School online services.
Your Harvard ID number and Harvard PIN provide access to:
- Online services (select “Login with Harvard ID and Harvard PIN”)
- Most password-protected course websites
- Harvard computer accounts
- Harvard library electronic resources
- Harvard ID card photo upload
- Distance education videos
- Links to live web-conference courses
- Summer School portal pages
- MessageMe, the Harvard emergency text notification system
Learning your Harvard ID number and PIN
Harvard ID numbers are assigned and activated beginning in mid-March. You will be notified by e-mail when your Harvard ID number has been assigned and activated. You can also see your Harvard ID number by logging in to online services and selecting “Student Information and Status.”
Once your Harvard ID number is activated, you must request a Harvard PIN via the Harvard PIN System. If you have trouble requesting or receiving a PIN via e-mail, call Information Services at (617) 495-4024, or write to registration_services@dcemail.harvard.edu from the e-mail address you provided in the Harvard Summer School system.
