Parking and Transportation

Parking in Cambridge/Boston is extremely limited. You are encouraged to walk, bike, or use public transportation instead of bringing vehicles to campus.

Parking applications and fees

If you do drive, permits are required for parking on Harvard University property. Parking for students in on-campus housing and for daytime commuters is located in Allston. Evening commuter parking (after 5 pm) is available in Cambridge on a limited basis.

You may apply for a parking permit beginning in June. See the Parking for Summer School Sessions on the Transportation Services website.

The University Parking Services Office is located on the eighth floor of Holyoke Center as part of the Campus Service Center. For details see the Campus Service Center website or call (617) 496-7827. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.

Public transportation

The Harvard Square stop on the Red Line of the MBTA subway system is across the street from Harvard Yard ($1.25 to $2 for bus and subway services to most destinations).

From Logan Airport: Take the Silver Line bus to South Station, then take the Red Line inbound to Harvard Square (6 stops).

From railroad or bus stations: From South Station take the Red Line subway inbound to Harvard (6 stops). From North Station take the Green Line subway inbound to Park Street (3 stops), then take the Red Line towards Alewife to Harvard (4 stops).

Nearby airports and taxi information

Harvard Summer School is located 6 miles (9.5 km) from Boston’s Logan International Airport.

Several smaller airports are nearby. Green Airport is approximately 60 miles from Cambridge in Providence, Rhode Island. Manchester Boston Regional Airport is approximately 50 miles north of Cambridge in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Taxi service from Logan Airport: A taxi ride takes an expected 20 to 25 minutes and costs $35 to $40, not including a tip. Tell the driver that you are going to Harvard University in Cambridge. Ask the driver to take you to your dormitory in Harvard Yard, or directly to your House. Give the driver the name of your dormitory or House and refer to the map and directions on this page, as needed.
